SUDBURY, ON – In a game that started as a defensive battle, the top-ranked Carleton Ravens eventually flexed their muscle and cruised to a 24 point victory Friday night at the Ben Avery Gym. Despite their strong defensive play, the Voyageurs could not overcome a poor shooting performance and fell 81-57.
The game started out very tight as both teams tried to find a rhythm. The Voyageurs did an excellent job containing the #1 Ravens, limiting them to just 28 first half points while forcing them to shoot just over 32% from the field, including 9% from three. At the other end of the court, however, the Voyageurs were not any better as they struggled to score the ball, shooting a mere 16.7% from the field. Despite their offensive woes the Voyageurs were very much in the game as Carleton led 28-22 at half.
The second half was a complete reversal from the first as both teams found their range but it was the Ravens who ran away with the game in the end, scoring 30 points in the third quarter alone. The Ravens won the game with a balanced attack as they had five players in double figures and three players who led the team with 14 points each.
Laurentian was led by Ottawa’s Alex Ratte who scored a game high 15 points in a game where 10 Voyageurs hit the court for at least 8 minutes each.
The Voyageurs will look to rebound tomorrow as they welcome the 8-1 Ottawa Gee-Gees. The game is scheduled to begin at 8pm in the Ben Avery Gym on the Laurentian University campus.
