Voyageurs upset ottawa gee gees

OTTAWA, ON – The Laurentian Voyageurs travelled to the nation’s capital to take on the 8th ranked Ottawa Gee Gees on Friday, January 25th. The Voyageurs were coming off an upset win over the Ryerson Rams and looked to continue this form against more top ranked opposition. This is exactly what happened, as the Laurentian team battled hard from start to finish, and emerged victors by a score of 73-72.

Once again, the Laurentian Voyageurs proved themselves to be the giant killers of the OUA, this time taking down the Ottawa Gee Gees. In a back and forth game filled with determined play from both teams, the Laurentian Voyageurs were able to keep the game close throughout. Despite going down early, solid defensive efforts from Nelson Yengue allowed the Voyageurs to fight back. Yengue’s emphatic rebounding was supported by his crowd pleasing dunks. At the half time interval, the Gee Gees held a slim 39-31 lead.

Playing in his 100th regular season game, Georges Serresse led the Voyageurs with 22 points and 5 steals. This offensive display from Serresse was supported was Alex Ratte’s 21 points and 7 rebounds. Overall, the Voyageurs shooting were not efficient but it was the defensive hustle displayed by the Voyageurs that allowed them to cut down the Ottawa lead. When the final whistle sounded the Voyageurs won by a score of 73-72, once again causing a stir in the OUA.

The Voyageurs now head to the Ravens Nest, to take on the number 1 ranked Carleton Ravens. This game will provide the Voyageurs with an avenue to truly test their skills against top opposition, while also putting their 3 game win streak on the line.
