OTTAWA, ON – After upsetting the Ravens in their last meeting, the Lady Vees looked to provide another excellent game against the Carleton team. However, playing at the Ravens Nest in never an easy time, and the home team triumphed by a score of 87-57.
Playing without talisman Sasha Polishchuk, the Lady Vees found life difficult against the Ravens. Despite the team stepping up offensively, it was the defensive efforts of the teams that were outmatched. The Ravens out-rebounded the Vees 51-33, allowing them to possess a majority of the scoring chances. Danielle Harris continued to play well in the absence of Polishchuk, this time with a team-leading 12 points. At the half way stage of the game, the Vees already seemed to have a mountainous task ahead of them, trailing by a score of 43-22.
The Vees competed more closely in the third quarter, matching the Ravens shot for shot. This was thanks to strong play from Krysten Patrick (9 points, 4 rebounds) and Adrienne Moreau (11 points, 4 rebounds), who helped keep the game close. However, Ravens were rampant in the final quarter, scoring an excellent 30 points in this quarter alone. This made the final score 87-57.
The Lady Vees can take some positives away from the game, especially offensively. The Vees scored well without injured Polishcuk, who currently leads the OUA in points per game scoring. This bodes well for the Vees upon her return, as it opens up multiple offensive avenues that will prove to be key in the more closely competed games. The Vees head to Toronto this weekend, facing the Varisty Blues and Ryerson Rams in what is set to be another excellent weekend of action for Laurentian.
