TORONTO, ON – The Laurentian Lady Vees visited the Toronto Varsity Blues looking to get back into winning ways in the late stages of the season. However the Varisty Blues were too strong for the Vees, with the final score reading 69-54.
Despite starting as the stronger of the two teams, the Lady Vees faltered down the home stretch, allowing the Varisty Blues to win by a comfortable margin. The first quarter was a low scoring affair, with only 16 points scored in the entire period of play. Emma Decloe led the charge for the Vees, with a team leading 12 points and 7 rebounds. This was supported by 11 points and 6 rebounds from the impressive Danielle Harris, as well as another 11 points from Erin Simpson. As the game progressed, the Vees found themselves leading by a score of 27-25 at the half.
The second half saw the Varsity Blues significantly out-rebound the Vees, with the 53 total rebounds eclipsing the total of 34 collected by Laurentian. This allowed the Blues to open up a commanding lead down the closing stretch, and emerge the victors by a score of 69-54.
A positive for the Vees was the return of talisman scorer Sasha Polishchuk, who returned from injury to play a minor role against the Blues. The Lady Vees now shift their focus to their game against the Ryerson Rams, where they will be looking to get back on the right track as the season winds down.
