TORONTO, ON – In the rematch of the thrilling first encounter, the Ryerson Rams played host to the Laurentian Voyageurs. This time, the Rams were able to hold off the Laurentian assault, and emerge victors by a score of 89-84.
From the opening tip-off, the Ryerson Rams pressured the Laurentian Voyageurs, and quickly opened up an 11-point lead. This lead allowed the Rams to gain control of the game, and force the Voyageurs into an offensive battle. Manny Pasquale stepped up for the Voyageurs, scoring an impressive 36 points on the night – a performance reminiscent of last season. Pasquale’s effective shooting allowed Laurentian to remain within reach of the Rams, trailing by just 8 points at the half time interval.
The second half saw the Rams start strong once again and expand upon their lead. This left Laurentian with a mountainous task in the final stages of the game. This task was hindered by some excellent rebounding from the Rams team as well as multiple, unnecessary turnovers by Laurentian. That being said, the Voyageurs pushed down the closing stages and managed to substantially cut down the lead. This was thanks to some more effective shooting from Pasquale, who helped the team score 30 points in the 4th quarter alone. However, it was too little too late and the Rams emerged victors by a score of 89-84.
The Voyageurs now return home where they will look to get back on track, this time against the Queens Gaels on February 8th, at 8pm. All are encouraged to come out and support your Laurentian Voyageurs.
