Game Recap:

TORONTO, ON – The Laurentian Lady Vees played host to the Queens Gaels in the penultimate home game of the season. This game held many playoff implications and was a tough battle from start to finish. However, the Gaels started the stronger and held onto their lead for the entirety of the game, emerging with a 80-68 victory.

After a delayed tip-off, the action began with the Queens Gaels jumping out to a quick lead. From there the Gaels controlled possession with their fast, physical play making life difficult for the Vees. However, a late first period surge led by Polishchuk help get points on the board, only to be eclipsed by more strong plays from the Gaels, who took a 20-8 lead into the second quarter. The second quarter brought about some diverse, effective shooting from the Gaels, who utilized all aspects of their offense to keep the Vees at bay. In a period of intensity from the Vees, the in-form Danielle Harris and Adrienne Moreau led a string of offensive chances that drastically cut into the Gaels lead. At the half, the Vees trailed 45-34.

The second half saw the Gaels play intelligent basketball, maintaining possession and preventing Laurentian from cutting their lead. However the Gaels could not contain Adrienne Moreau, whose 24 points and 5 rebounds acted as a career high. This play from Moreau was inspired, shooting 8-14 from the field including 5 efforts from downtown. This allowed the Vees to remain in contention heading into the final quarter. Despite a strong finish by the Vees the gap remained insurmountable, and the Gaels emerged the victors by a score of 80-68.

The Vees now look to close out the regular season with strong performances during two games against the York Lions. Be sure to come support your Lady Vees in their final home game of the season, on February 15th at 6:00pm.
