Game Recap:

YORK, ON – In their penultimate down of the season, the Laurentian Voyageurs visited the York Lions seeking to finish the season strong. The Voyageurs did just that, emerging as the victors by a score of 95-93 to improve their record to 11-8.

From the opening tip-off, the Voyageurs dominated the first quarter. The effective shooting shown by Laurentian was too much for the Lions to handle, with the Voyageurs combining for 34 points in the first quarter. This allowed them to open up a 19-point lead early on. This quarter set the tone for the remainder of the game, which turned into a high-scoring, offensive driven game. The second quarter saw a surge from the Lions, quickly cutting away at the Laurentian lead. The Lions were led by Aaron Rados who played an excellent game, shooting for 30 points and gathering 12 rebounds for the double-double performance. Thanks for Rados, the Lions now trailed by just 6 points, with the scoreboard reading 49-43 in favour of the Voyageurs.

The second half was more closely competed, with both team eager for the victory. The Voyageurs were being led by Alex Ratte with 27 points and 7 rebounds and Manny Pasquale, who added 23 points and 9 assists to the Laurentian cause. However, despite Laurentians’ efficient shooting the Lions continued to gain a foothold in the game and entered the final quarter with a slim 1-point lead. This finish tested the nerve, and determination of the Voyageurs who now needed to regain their composure. This is exactly what the Voyageurs were able to do, outscoring the Lions in the late stages to avoid defeat, and improve their record to 11-8. When the buzzer sounded, the Voyageurs were victors by a score of 95-93.

The Lions will now make the trek to Sudbury to face the Voyageurs in Laurentians’ final home game of the regular season. This will be the last test for the Voyageurs before the playoffs begin, and will be looking to build some momentum. All are encouraged to come and support your Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday, February 15th at 8:00pm in the Ben Avery Gymnasium!
