Lady vees gearing up for oua's

York Open Indoor Track Meet

The Laurentian Women's track team competed at the York Open Indoor Invitational this weekend, returning with a silver medal, 5 top-eight finishes, four personal bests and three OUA qualifying standards.

Adrienne Wilson (Kitchener), made a strong surge over the final two laps to charge through the pack into second place. Her time of 4:48.17 was a season's best and broke the OUA qualifying standard of 4:55.0. She was followed by Katie Wismer ( Sudbury) in 6th place with an OUA-qualifying time of 4:52.46.

Alyssa Bedard (North Bay) shattered her personal best time in placing 4th in the 3000m. Her time of 10:38.10 bested the OUA standard of 10:40.0.

Samantha Edwards (Toronto) placed 5th in the 1000m, missing the standard by only .8 seconds. Other top-8 finishers were Michelle Kennedy (London) who was 7th in the 3000m, Jackie Bray (Midland) who was 8th in the triple jump and the 4 x 400m relay team that placed 6th.

This meet was the first in a string of four consecutive track meets for the Vees. Next week they travel to Boston for the Valentine Invitation on the U. of Boston track. The week after is the Guelph Last Chance meet, followed by the OUA Championships in Windsor.
