The Voyageurs Women Soccer team were able to secure their first victory of the season against Trent. Laurentian debuted a young squad in their season opener on Saturday, however pulled through with a 2-0 victory.
Laurentian opened the scoring early in the first half off a through ball from sophomore Gabrielle Conrad (Sudbury, ON) to forward Julie Lopez (Ottawa, ON). The Voyageurs controlled the play throughout the first half, maintaining possession in the opposing end and creating many opportunities. Celine Valiquette (Sault St Marie, ON) capitalized midway through the half, putting Laurentian up by two heading into the second.
The second half of the game started off slowly for both teams, however it picked up and the Voyageurs were able to create opportunities in the attacking end. While Laurentian had chances, they were unable to convert any other goals. At the opposite end, Trent was unable to find the net throughout the game, giving Richele Greenwood (Mississauga, ON) her first shutout of the season.
Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 18 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 62 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 52 years of competition.
