Women finish weekend with tie

Game Recap:

The Laurentian Women’s Soccer team were looking to finish off their weekend in Toronto with a victory against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Battling for the entity of the game, both teams were unable to find the back of the net, finishing tied 0-0 at the final whistle.

 

The first half was a battle for possession, with each team creating opportunities at either end. The Blues were able to put Laurentian under pressure with many through balls to veteran forward Aisha Lewis (Mississauga, ON) and sophomore LaShaunna Harper (Toronto, ON). The Voyageurs were able to shut down these attacks with a solid defensive line and goalkeeping, and created a few chances of their own later in the first half.

 

The Voyageurs displayed a much higher level of intensity in the second half with rookies Alexandra Ross (Sudbury, ON) and Melissa Ayotte (Barrie, ON) positively contributing to the attack. Laurentian gave up many corners during the second half, however their defensive line stood strong, with goalkeeper Richele Greenwood (Mississauga, ON) making many key saves, and earning her second shutout of the season.

Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 18 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 62 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 52 years of competition.
