Student Associations

Laurentian Students’ General Association (SGA)

The Students’ General Association provides comprehensive representation, services, social and cultural enhancements to the general student body. It actively participates and lobbies not only within the university but at municipal, provincial and federal levels of government. It is an active player in the provincial and national student movements.

Indigenous Students Circle (ISC)

The Indigenous Students Circle works to support the academic endeavours of its members by promoting Indigenous culture and by supporting and developing opportunities for social and cultural interaction in the Laurentian community. An array of events are planned throughout the year including drum socials, traditional teachings with elders, brown-bag lunch lecture series, dinners and socials, and much more. A new radio show on Laurentian’s CKLU 96.7 FM, hosted by ISC members, celebrates the talent of Indigenous artists, discusses the events and activities of the association and engages in dialogue about issues that affect Indigenous people at the local, regional and national levels.

Association des étudiantes et étudiants francophones (AEF)

The Association des étudiantes et étudiants francophones represents the interests of Francophone students on campus. Its mandate is to enhance social, academic and cultural ties that unite, through the promotion of the French language, student engagement in a variety of Francophone activities and events, and political, academic and administrative representation.

Laurentian Association of Mature and Part time Students (LAMPS)

LAMPS represents approximately 2,500 students studying all year round on campus and around the world via distance education. Its mission is to represent mature and part time students, advocate on behalf of its general membership, and link them to Laurentian University and the community at large.

Laurentian Student Union (Barrie)

The Laurentian Student Union (Barrie) is an independent student government which currently represents over 1,200 full-time students at the Barrie and Orillia campuses. Its main goals are investing in university resources for the library, funding trips such as Model United Nations, Model Parliament, Stratford, and others, increasing guest lecturers and speakers, and creating more clubs and associations on campus derived from student interests.

Graduate Students' Association

All full-time and part-time graduate students are members of the Graduate Students' Association (GSA) at Laurentian University. The GSA Board of Directors represents graduate students and usually consists of an executive and representatives from each department elected by the general membership. When questions relevant to graduate students arise, the University Administration consults the GSA as the body representing graduate students.
