Our students benefit from the expertise of our faculty (see Reason #8) and in turn reap the rewards of an unparalleled postsecondary experience.
2. A PERSONALIZED LEARNING EXPERIENCE
A unique learning environment, prized by students, affording opportunity for one-on-one interaction with professors. Our small class sizes combined with respectful and approachable profs give students the best chance of meeting and exceeding their academic goals. Our student-to-faculty ratio is currently ranked as one of the best in the country, with an average class size of 27 students.
3. OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Students are our raison d’être. As such, we keep testing and enhancing our support services for Student Success. These supports are effective, convenient and personalized. Experienced staff will take the time to understand individual challenges, and to customize solutions for successful outcomes; students are most impressed with our academic advice and counselling, writing assistance and peer-assisted study groups.
4. BILINGUAL PROGRAMMING WITH ADDED FLEXIBILITY
Laurentian offers programs in both official languages on the Sudbury campus, of which 38 with a full French curriculum. Laurentian’s bilingual programming is a boon to any and all students seeking to improve their proficiency in either language as it offers the added flexibility of mixed course language selection. Opportunities also abound on campus to converse in either of the official languages as so much of the Laurentian community is proudly bilingual. Students can earn a certificate of bilingualism by successfully completing a written and an oral examination in both official languages in the last year of their undergraduate program.
5. RESEARCH WITH GLOBAL IMPACT
Research currently done at Laurentian rivals any performed at other Canadian universities. Our international reputation in the areas of business, health, mining, and the environment is solid and growing exponentially. Our world-class facilities – of which the Vale Living with Lakes Centre, the Sudbury
Neutrino Observation Laboratory, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and many others – are incubators for leading-edge innovation, with many having ongoing discovery. In fact, for the past three years Laurentian has ranked among the top three for sponsored research income among primarily undergraduate universities*.
