Course Description

This course is an introduction to several of the modern laboratory techniques involved in the manipulation of the DNA molecule. The following topics will be discussed: complimentary DNA and genomic library screening; PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technology; site-directed mutagenesis; DNAse footprinting procedure; transgenic and knock-out mice; in-vitro and in-vivo expression of specific proteins; cloning hereditary disease-causing genes; recombinant DNA and its commercial applications. PREREQ: CHMI 3217 (lec 3) cr 3. Students may not retain credit for both CHMI 4226 and CHMI 3216.
