This course is an examination of Rome as the most powerful and enduring empire to have ruled over the Mediterranean. It investigates the nature of the Roman leadership, the structure of the army, and theories of imperialism (ancient and modern). PREREQ: CLAS 1007 or 2057 or permission of the instructor. (lec 3) cr 3. Students may not retain credit for both CLAS 3057 and CLAS 4057.
