This course explores selected themes in Roman religion such as religious diversity, local cults, syncretism and acculturation, Greek cults to Roman benefactors, cults to the living or dead emperor, Oriental cults, the development of monotheism and the rise of Christianity. PREREQ: permission of instructor or any three of the following: CLAS 1007, 2005, 2016, 2057, 3057, 3156. (lec/sem 3) cr 3.
