Course Description

This course studies the major Latin poets of the Golden Age of Rome, with a view to exploring themes such as love, politics, philosophy, religion, and literary criticism. Selections from authors such as Catullus, Horace, Virgil, and Ovid will be read in translation and placed within the appropriate literary and historical context. PREREQ: CLAS 1007 or CLAS 2057 or the permission of the instructor. (lec/sem 3) cr 3. Students may not retain credit for both CLAS 3317 and CLAS 4317.
