Course Description

This course introduces architectural design through a series of short studies regarding PLACE that provide opportunities to develop basic design skills, including free-hand drawing, site analysis, and modeling. The theme of PLACE is explored at a variety of scales, beginning with the geology of Sudbury, its foundations as a rail town, and its mining history as sources for design exercises. Emphasis is on recording and analysis of existing places to establish a base understanding of our location in Sudbury and the region. Exercises may include studying the light, situating buildings on the rock, and thinking in section. cr 6.
