My research focuses on child protection in 19th Century Ontario, including the extent of government involvement prior to 1893, the role of children’s homes (orphanages), primarily Protestant Homes, and the use of private home placements. I am currently researching the placement practices of the Kingston Orphans' Home from 1857 to 1893. My research on Protestant children’s homes involves collecting all available information about each child admitted, particularly those placed out in private homes on discharge, including information in the Homes’ Registers and Minutes, and census, birth, marriage and death information available on the internet.
