Research Focus

My primary areas of research and teaching are early modern English drama and creative writing. While my research focuses mainly on the religious drama of the early sixteenth century, my other areas of interest include early modern English history plays and historiography, the representation of food in medieval and early modern English drama, and, somewhat incongruously, hockey in the Canadian literary imagination. My current research project explores the ways in which medieval and early modern plays represent food and eating as integral to various collective and corporate bodies such as the body of the church, the body politic, the commonwealth, and the nation.
