Dr. Sylvie Albert joined Laurentian University in 2004 as a professor of Strategy within the Faculty of Management following a 20-year career in public and private sector organizations. This included leadership of economic development organizations in northern Ontario and management of her own consulting firm, Planned Approach Inc. (PAI). Dr. Albert's firm has provided strategic planning services across Canada and established collaborative partnerships for small to large community and regional projects estimated at over $100 Million. At Laurentian, she is the Associate Dean responsible for AACSB accreditation and the Director of the Laurentian Management Development Centre (LMDC). One of the initiatives of the LMDC is Professions North/Nord, a bridging program for internationally-trained professionals (ITPs) serving northern Ontario. This project has led to research around post-secondary management of ITPs (such as competency assessments) and community development policy and processes. Dr. Albert served as an appointed Director of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation; the Telecommunication Access Partnership initiative; the Laurentian University Board of Governors; the Ontario Jobs and Investment Board; and co-chair of the Academic Colleagues and member of the Executive at the Council of Ontario Universities. Since 2004, Dr. Albert has been the lead jurist and researcher for the Intelligent Community Forum in New York allowing her to be a guest speaker at regional and international events including an APEC conference in China in 2010.
