Turgut Yalcin is a professor at Laurentian University with specialization in mineral processing. He graduated from the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College in London, England with degrees of B.Sc. (Mining) and Ph.D (Mineral Processing). Prior to joining Laurentian University in 1982, he worked as a mill superintendent at a Turkish Coal Board's coal preparation plant in Zonguldak, and as a Faculty member at the Mineral Processing Department of Istanbul Technical University. He single-handedly organized and run the International Conference on Innovations in Mineral Processing (June 6-8, 1994, Laurentian University), and co-organized and run the International Conference on Mineral Process Modelling, Simulation and Control (June 6-7, 2006, Laurentian University). He served on various provincial and national committees including NSERC grant selection committee, CEAB program accreditation teams and Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) Selection Board.

Research Focus Currently involved in a variety of scientific and industrial projects in the areas of flotation, leaching, mineral process simulation, tailings disposal and mine backfill preparation.
