These call for the ability to solve problems critically yet creatively, the breadth of learning to approach unfamiliar situations with confidence, and the rhetorical and compositional skills necessary to communicate in diverse media.
• Three and four-year (Honours) programs lead to a Bachelor of Arts in English
• Students may also combine one of these specializations with studies in another discipline.
• ELIT option is grounded in literary criticism and theory, and develops students’ interpretative and communicative skills by teaching them to respond critically to a wide range of literary texts
• The department awards three scholarships yearly along with annual prizes to recognize students’ achievements
• An annual excursion to the Stratford Festival is organized as well as an annual screening of films produced by students
• Course topics range from: medieval visionary literature to contemporary thought and culture; rhetorical theory and historicized investigations of poetry, prose and drama to studies of contemporary literature and media, and creative writing to documentary film production
