Canada's Top 50 Research Universities List is released each fall. Using Statistics Canada data and a proprietary Canadian University R&D Database, the List ranks universities by their research income. Accompanying the Top 50 List each year are Research Universities of the Year rankings based on a balanced scorecard of input, output and impact measures.

Laurentian has been ranked in the top three in total sponsored research income amongst primarily undergraduate universities in Canada for each of the past four years, including two years as #1.
