  • A minimum of B+ standing in a four-year humanities degree, or equivalent.

 

  • A minimum of B+ standing in a qualifying year program after a general (three-year) B.A. in a humanities subject.

 

  • For those with non-humanities degrees, a minimum of B+ standing in a qualifying program approved by the program council. In exceptional circumstances this requirement may be waived if the applicant has an excellent record and can demonstrate appropriate undergraduate experience, click here for qualifying year protocols.

 

  • An appropriate 500-word (minimum) statement of purpose in taking the degree.

 

  • A sustained piece of upper year university writing, by the applicant, of at least 1500 words.

 

 

  • A student who wishes to be considered for the thesis stream must present as part of the application package a substantial idea for a possible thesis topic. Click here for protocols on Thesis Topic (100-150 words), as the basis for an interdisciplinary research project.

 

  • For foreign students whose first language is not English, a TOEFL score of 550.

 

  • September is the normal entry point. Though applications will be considered until the programme is full, full time students applying before April 30th will have more opportunity to receive a Graduate Teaching or Research Assistantship. International Students applying are eligible for one GTA/GRA position in 2013-2014

 

  • The deadline for foreign students is the end of April, though earlier is better given the time necessary to process visas.
