Application Questions

1) Who can apply for admission to the online H.B.Com program?

To apply to this program, you must meet two requirements:

  • you must be a CGA student or member in good standing; and
  • you must have completed the Foundation Studies (Levels 1 to 3) of the CGA program of professional studies.

2) How do I apply to the online H.B.Com program?

Applications are available on the "H.B.Com Application" web page of this web site. The application package contains the application form and provides specific instructions regarding the required documentation and submission process.

3) Which transcripts will Laurentian University require?

It is important that you request official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you attended.  The Registrar will evaluate this education towards the 12 additional credits required in the online H.B.Com program.

Your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office will forward your CGA transcript to Laurentian University with your application package.

4) How will I know if I have been accepted in the online H.B.Com program?

The Laurentian University Registrar will forward a letter of offer to advise you of your acceptance into the online H.B.Com program.  With this letter, you will receive a request for acknowledgement of the offer which you must return to the university promptly.

The degree requirements form will also be included with your letter of offer.  This form is a “roadmap” to your degree.  It  outlines the course requirements needed to complete the online H.B.Com program.  This document should be used to track your progress!

5) When will I know if I have been accepted in the online H.B.Com program?

Applications are processed three times a year.  The Laurentian University Registrar will inform you of your status in the program approximately two months prior to the start of the session you have applied for.

Example: If you apply to the online H.B.Com during the month of April with intention of starting the program in December, the Registrar will most likely inform you of your status in the program by mid-October.

Workload Related Questions

1) Will I be able to work full-time and study at the same time?

The online H.B.Com program is designed specifically for CGA students and members who have to juggle full-time work and other obligations. Each course takes 13 weeks to complete and is delivered through online technologies.

2) How are the LU business courses designed?

Laurentian University H.B.Com courses are designed for study in an online environment. A 6-credit course typically comprises 10 or 11 modules and is delivered over a 13-week period. Each module should take between 15 and 20 hours to complete. Supporting material such as textbooks and business cases will be provided. Students must arrange their own connection to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider.

The courses make extensive use of the Internet and discussion forums, encouraging students to take an active part in their learning experience. Students will be required to complete online group projects and to participate weekly in online discussions with other students and the course instructor.

Specific requirements for each course vary; as a general rule, students should plan to participate weekly in discussions and group work. The course grade will include marks for individual and group work, participation and contribution in discussion forums, and a final examination.

Course Fees and Enrollment Information

1) How much do the LU business courses cost?

Each LU 6-credit course will cost approximately $1,600 + HST. Fees are subject to change at the beginning of an academic year. Contact your provincial/territorial CGA affiliate or international Program Office for further information on tuition fees.

2) How many courses do I need to take to remain active in the program?

You must enroll in at least one LU business course per academic year to remain active in the online H.B.Com program.

3) Can I enroll for two LU business courses in one session?

Yes, you are allowed to take up to two LU business courses in one session. However, you are strongly encouraged to first take one LU business course and then decide if taking two courses at once is feasible for your schedule, work and family commitments. We find that many of our students struggle with the workload when they complete two courses at once.
