  • Laurentian Welcomes Celebrated Aboriginal Advocate

    RBC sponsors visit by Phil Fontaine to promote Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre

    December 1, 2012On Wednesday, November 28th, Laurentian University welcomed Phil Fontaine, one of Canada’s most passionate advocates for First Nations rights, to its Sudbury campus.  The visit was sponsored by RBC in support of Laurentian’s proposed Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre.  RBC has been a significant suppporter of the ISLC project, donating $400,000 toward its construction.  To date, more than $1.5M has been raised for the creation of this unique hub of indigenous learning and culture.

  • Laurentian Architecture to begin work at Elm and Elgin site

    Official welcome ceremony with Whitefish Lake First Nation planned

    November 9, 2012 – Work on Laurentian University’s new School of Architecture will be proceeding in the weeks ahead at the historic intersection of Elm and Elgin Streets in downtown Sudbury.  The transfer of title for the property took effect on November 6, 2012.  Laurentian University purchased the site from the City of Greater Sudbury as the home of Canada’s newest School of Architecture, which will welcome its charter class of students in September 2013.

  • Silver Birch String Quartet appointed as String Quartet-in-Residence

    October 30, 2012 - Laurentian University is pleased to announce that the Silver Birch String Quartet has been appointed as its inaugural String Quartet-in-Residence, effective September 2012. This position will see the SBSQ undertake new collaborations with various faculties, schools, and departments inside the university, develop closer connections between the Sudbury community and Laurentian, and act as cultural ambassadors for Laurentian University in Northern Ontario and beyond.

    October 22, 2012 Hangzhou China -  Laurentian University has announced a unique partnership with Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE) in Hangzhou, China to jointly deliver a Bachelor Degree program in Accounting.

    October 15, 2012 – Ned Goodman, CEO of Dundee Corporation, and The Goodman Family Foundation - JODAMADA, announced today a historic gift to Laurentian University’s new School of Mines. In recognition of the Goodman family’s generosity, Laurentian University President Dominic Giroux announced that the university will name the school in the Goodman family’s honour.

  • Architecture Faculty Hiring Begins

    Candidates for faculty positions to deliver public talks this fall

    September 25, 2012 – Laurentian University’s School of Architecture this week began the process of interviewing and selecting faculty for the September, 2013 launch of the charter class.  Candidates for faculty positions are being interviewed by the selection committee over the next 6 weeks.   As part of the selection process, candidates have agreed to present talks on architecture projects and architectural approaches.  The series will be open to the public and will be held weekly, each Monday at 5:30 pm at the Laurentian Architecture Project Office in downtown Sudbury.

    $5-million dollar investment by the federal government

    September 21, 2012 - A $5-million dollar investment by the federal government’s regional development program in Laurentian University’s School of Architecture will help to fund construction of the new state-of-the-art facility at the historic crossroads of Downtown Sudbury.
